First time buying a VFD was more confusing than it needed to be. Didn't fully understand the difference between the input voltage rating and the output voltage rating, ended up ordering something that technically worked but wasn't ideal for the motor I had. Learned from it.
The second time around, I was more deliberate. Found Inverter.com's frequency inverter section and spent some time actually reading through the specs before clicking anything. The way they organize drives by input type and power range made the selection process a lot less painful — I could filter down to what matched my motor nameplate without guessing.
Ended up with a drive that's been running a cooling fan motor for about six months without issue. Ramp-up time is smooth, the motor runs quieter than it did on direct-on-line start, and I haven't touched the parameters since initial setup.
